Orris — illustrative raw material

What is orris?

Orris comes from the rhizome of iris plants, not the petals. Drying and ageing help develop its characteristic violet-like, powdery scent.

Scent & use in perfumery

A smooth powdery texture in floral and woody fragrances. An iris note does not by itself prove the presence of natural orris.
